We asked people the question:
"What do you know about the affordable care act?"
“I think it’s been frustrating for a lot of people. The goal to help everyone who doesn’t have healthcare is a huge undertaking. I worry that it’s frustrating the wrong people and not getting to the people it needs to.”
–- Deb, 61, Lynnwood, WA “The Affordable Care Act is very good “Nothing." -- Brian, 16, Lynnwood, WA

“Obama made it up to help people.” I have seen a lot about Obamacare and I think it is terrible. My health care recently has almost doubled; it’s almost more than my mortgage.” — Kelly, 52, Lynnwood, WA
“I think the Affordable Care Act is a step in a good direction, but I also think that it needs a lot of work. I believe that many people will sign up for it but also many people will not sign up for Obamacare.” – Tracy, 47, Seattle, WA |
"The Affordable Care Act will bring healthcare to millions of uninsured Americans beginning in January. While the rollout of the health care exchange websites has been bumpy, we must remember that this important policy change has been more than a half century in the making. Over 75,000 Washingtonians have already signed up for insurance. Soon, millions of people who were previously uninsured will have access to high quality, affordable health coverage. This is an enormous step forward." Ruth, Olympia, WA
“The hope is that it will give insurance to people who can’t afford it.” |
“It’s an initiative proposed by president Obama. The intent is to provide affordable insurance and health care for those who can’t afford it.” -- Michele, 36, Lynnwood, WA
|
“The Affordable Care Act is very good idea and in the long run it will be proven to be the best solution to America’s health care crisis.” -- Annette, 62, Lynnwood WA

“The Affordable Care Act is a good idea but now is not the right time for America.” HaiHa Nguyen, Age 40, Lynnwood WA |
“What do I think of it? I think it’s good, I think insurance is a problem in our society. I don’t think it’s right that there are people who lose their entire livelihoods because they don’t have insurance. I do feel like the insurance companies have a little bitmore power in the Affordable Care Act than I would probably like them to have.I would like to see them have offerings maybe like a state or government based offering but overall I like the idea of principle. I’m not sure how it’ll be once it’s implemented or as it’s being implemented. I’m also concerned about the idea that it might cause employers to say ‘Hey wait a minute, maybe we’re not going to insure you anymore. You can just buy it on the open market.'"

“The ACA is not the best but it’s the best we got. 20 – 30 million people are covered. Everyone should “Bits and pieces, but most importantly its putting us in the right direction for our country and government.”
-- Bethany, 21, Lynnwood, WA “I know it gives everyone free health care and I think it forces everyone to have health care. They haven’t done a great job of explaining.” |
“It requires all Americans to purchase either federal or private health insurance. The enrollment process online has been a disaster so far and definitely hurt Obama’s credibility. I would fix the online enrollment.”
– Doug, 41, Lynnwood WA “It was passed into a law, but was challenged by congress and it expands Medicaid to more people.” “It is something you get when you are 65 and
older." -- Maddy, 9, Lynnwood, WA |
“This is the federal government’s attempt to provide affordable health care. We have a big problem in the United States because it is so expensive. Literally millions of people have no source of health care. It’s definitely not what I would like to see from us, but instead a single payer health insurance, which is more cost effective. The system does have its issues which aren’t as favorable, but overall it will cost less for everyone. The Affordable Care Act is a hybrid of a few different forms of health care insurance. The primary goal is just to make money, rather than help people. I don’t think healthcare and profit should be used in the same sentence. It’s an abomination.” -- Jim, 58, Lynnwood, WA
“The Affordable Care Act is changing my insurance and increasing the cost dramatically, it's making it hard for me to take my kids to the doctor because it's so expensive.” -- Rhonda, 44, Lynnwood, WA
“Literally Nothing” -- Hannah, 15, Lynnwood, WA |
“I don’t really know much about it because it doesn’t affect me since I have good insurance from my employer.” -- Mitchell, 29, Lynnwood, WA “The Affordable Care Act sounds good in theory, but is frustrating to see the government not have the same view. They have good intentions, but why isn't it working?” -- Bobby, 30, Lynnwood, WA

“ACA makes everyone get into a pool. ‘Shared Loss’ so if everyone pays for the people that can’t pay fully on their own then if everyone has to pay what they can it makes the shared pool larger making the average everyone has to pay smaller.” -- Ron, Lynnwood, WA
