media Attention

Today our teacher, Ms. Stifter, told us that the Edmonds School District went out of their way to invite some media to our presentation. We may have people from the media watching our presentation on Thursday! The blog group decided to ask students how they feel about the news coming to our presentation.

Kyle said, “I think it’s awesome! It gives our hard work recognition.” Nick felt, “Stressed! Piles on the panic for getting things done because it has to be perfect.” Kylie put it very directly by saying, “I feel like I’m going to have an explosion in my pants because I’m so nervous.” While Emily felt that presenting would be more difficult, “I don’t know want to present anymore because I’m so nervous.”

Preparing for the Presentation

Today I asked people the question, “What is your group’s plan since the presentation is in a few days?” Justin said that our plan is to work hard and push through so we can get a good grade. Jennifer said they need to work hard to get done before the due date. It looks like everyone is going to work hard so that we have a very good website that will get lots of attention to help people understand the Affordable Care Act.

Today we went around to different people in each group to ask them how they feel about presenting the website and what they are nervous about? Ryan said that he was, “worried about talking during the presentation.” Anonymous was more, “worried about it not getting done.” While Kylie was, “not really worried.”

Today we asked work group members what they thought about the projects dead line. We have until Tuesday, which is on the 26th of this month, which leaves only four days left to finish the project.

Emily said, “This project is crazy and I haven’t finished half the research. I don’t think we will finish by the deadline on Tuesday.” Manuel just said we were, “Screwed.”  And Kendra said, “I’m afraid of the deadline being next week, we could have worked harder.”

Individual Thoughts

Today we went around to the task groups (Video Production, Web Design, Artists, and Presentation) to ask them how well their teammates are helping them with their tasks. We had relatively the same answer from all five groups agreeing that everyone has contributed to achieving the task ahead of them. The teamwork shown throughout the groups has proven that progress will be made and we will be able to complete the project on time.

“Something had to be done. It’s not perfect, but it was time.” - Wendy Nelson

Ms. Nelson came to our class to better inform us about the Affordable Care Act. The information that Ms. Nelson shared with us helped many of the groups with the assignments they have. We also learned about how some people involved with the ACA have had to stop talking about it because the government website has had such a difficult time.  The reason why the ACA website went down was because they didn’t test it right, they tested it for 2,000 people all logging in at one time and they didn’t test it for the whole country logging in to register. The government messed up big time in the creation of the federal website and it is an embarrassment.

When asked if all of the information we are gathering for the website will be beneficial to the uninformed public students answered with a strong yes.

Ray from the presentation group said, “Yes because people who don’t know much about ACA, then when they look at the website they’ll be informed.”

Anonymous from the web design group said, “Yes, because we have given accurate and quality information.

We agree with the above statements.

Grades

The impact of the ACA project not being completed took its toll on some peoples grades. With grades dropping, the importance of the project has increased, forcing some people to panic. Some of the things people are saying are:

“My grade went from a B+ to a C, I need to get it up.” --Brenden

“The quality of work is great, it just needs to be turned in.” -- Ms. Stifter

Tough Task

Today we decided to ask the work groups how things were going for them. Although initially the website project may have seemed to be rather easy it has begun to be increasingly difficult, so we thought it would be interesting to see what people thought was the most difficult task. Looking at the input from all eight groups, three common tasks have proved to be the most difficult: family profiles, the timeline, and reading the ACA. The groups also seem to agree with the fact that being a part of a group that needs to work together and stay focused is incredibly difficult!

Project: Harder or Easier?

11/6/2013

As the project progresses we are asking each group whether or not they think the project is easier or harder than they expected. Most groups responded that the project was fairly easy but was just time consuming.  Video Production says, “The project is easy, but sometimes we have to take a step back and look at what we are doing and if we are doing it correctly.” The Art Group says that the project is easy now but in time may become more stressful because people will be asking them for more artwork for the website and since only one person has the ability to create the artwork, it will be very stressful towards the end of the project.
